Join the lab!

We are always searching for researchers eager to advance understanding of conservation policy through rigorous science. Although our lab crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries, we place a particular emphasis on the use of economics to tackle questions from land systems science and conservation biology. If you like to get lost in big datasets, think carefully about research design, and pursue science to improve environmental and social outcomes you'll fit right in. We advertise all new job openings in the lab through the Environmental Market Lab’s Work With Us page and listserv.

Undergraduates

Are you a UCSB environmental studies student and want to get experience conducting research? We frequently hire student researchers to assist with data collection, and analysis. We advertise all research positions through emLab’s community listserv. I'm particularly interested in supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in science through the McNair Scholars Program.

Graduate students

I typically admit Ph.D. students through the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. More details about applying to the program are available here. I strongly encourage eligible candidates to apply for the NSF's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (typically due in mid-October). Please contact me early so I can help you develop a strong proposal.

Postdocs and staff

I'm always eager to hear from exceptional scholars eager to join the lab as postdocs or scientists. I encourage potential postdocs to contact me to discuss internal and external funding opportunities including the University of California’s President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Smith Conservation Fellowship, or NSF's fellowships
